Background of the Study

Burn injuries can lead to complex wound care needs and pose significant challenges to healthcare providers. Burn patients require not only medical attention to prevent infection and promote healing but also psychological support to cope with the trauma. Nurses are pivotal in managing the care of burn patients, including wound cleaning, dressing changes, pain management, and preventing complications such as infections.

In Sokoto State, where burn injuries can be caused by environmental factors such as cooking accidents, the role of nurses in wound care management is especially important. This study aims to evaluate the impact of nurses' involvement in wound care management on the outcomes for burn patients in Sokoto State hospitals.

Statement of the Problem

Burn injuries can lead to severe complications if not managed properly. Nurses play a key role in preventing infection and promoting recovery through effective wound care management. However, challenges related to limited resources, training, and knowledge may hinder their ability to provide optimal care. This study will examine the impact of nurses’ involvement in wound care management for burn patients in Sokoto State hospitals.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To assess the role of nurses in wound care management for burn patients in Sokoto State hospitals.

  2. To evaluate the impact of nurse-led wound care interventions on patient recovery and healing outcomes.

  3. To identify barriers nurses face in managing burn wounds in Sokoto State.

Research Questions

  1. What is the role of nurses in managing burn wound care in Sokoto State hospitals?

  2. How effective are nurse-led wound care interventions in promoting recovery in burn patients?

  3. What barriers do nurses face in managing burn wounds in Sokoto State hospitals?

Research Hypotheses

  1. Nurses in Sokoto State effectively manage burn wounds and contribute to positive patient outcomes.

  2. Nurse-led wound care interventions improve recovery and healing outcomes in burn patients.

  3. Barriers such as inadequate resources and training affect nurses' ability to provide optimal burn wound care.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study will focus on nurses involved in burn care management in hospitals across Sokoto State. Limitations may include variability in training, resources, and the severity of burn injuries treated in different hospitals.

Definitions of Terms

  • Burn Wound Care: The process of treating and managing burn injuries, including cleaning, dressing, and preventing infection.

  • Nurse-Led Interventions: Actions initiated and carried out by nurses, such as applying dressings, administering pain relief, and educating patients on self-care.
